warm summer morning
feathers and fluff on the screen
lie still as the heat

—Steve Blum

We live on an acreage on the Nebraska praire. Wind is a regular feature. We have a bird feeder attached outside our screened porch. The bird feathers always cling to the screen and ruffle with the wind. This was an unusually windless day on the prairie and I noticed the stillness in the bird feathers.
