midnight beach
a wave breaks
through the dark

—Michael Evans

About the author: I am retired and moved to Washington state three years ago. Began TRYING to write haiku in late 1990 - did not get around to submitting for publication until 1997. Am considered, by family & friends, to be one of the great procrastinators of the last 60 years. Publications include Frogpond, Modern Haiku, Heron's Nest, RAW NerVZ, Red Moon Anthology, and others. I continue trying to learn what haiku really is.

Thank you, Michael. I like to read your poem over and over. Each time I hear a wave breaking through the darkness. Some of my favorite memories are of very dark nights at Lighthouse Beach here in Chatham.

John, Sprite, & Norman - and also some
    people new to me.
    Enjoyed them all.

    in the darkness ...
    the ocean's roar,
    a grain of sand,
    in my eye
