    The electric bulb,
    in modish mimicry
    of age-old alchemy,
    transmogrifies
    the streaks of silver rain
    to raucous golden veins –
    fool’s gold,
for when I cut the light
    they pale to silver.
    Or when the rising sun
    outshines my foolish bulb.
