green thumb
an hour of
podding peas

—Claudette Russell

About the author: I'm a retired high school English teacher and live with my husband Frank in Hampton, Connecticut. Over the years my humorous essays have been published as op-ed pieces in various newspapers. Recently I decided that I wanted to try a different type of writing and began writing poetry.

There's an interesting illustration of podding peas at:

    I enjoyed the surprise here!
And also, the use of "podding"...
In my area, we say "shelling peas",
but I have no idea why. (Is podding
    a British term, I wonder?)
