This is the second shells and beach haiku I've read in a couple of weeks, and I've learnt that the author probably means normal seashells, and not spent munitions.

But I constantly connect the two because we spend so much on killing other people, and also racking up the pollution in our seas.

There's an unusual amount of alliteration, and the 's' sound is a tricky one. I kept going back into a whisper, Is that intended? Like the whisper of surf as it reaches the beach…

Harold, I really do get a feeling for the ferocity of this winter sea, and it is a sea I love.

    shells litter the beach
    thrown away
    by the waves

Written a while ago, but apt for this moment in time.

Beautiful…perfect choice of EACH word to flood the reader with nostalgia…an elusive "flashback"…but…what happened to 5/7/5?

I love the sound in this haiku – the final word is just like the hiss of the tide as it pulls back across shingle and broken shells. I live by the shore and this really works.
