still pond -
I write my name in water
with a dry stick

A little nod to Basho and Keats and the creative impulse :)

For awhile I was thinking that this was a deja-ku. Then I realized that it was part of a group of haiku that was recently posted to haikutalk mailing list by someone who I think is probably a fairly new haiku poet. If I remember correctly, this was the best of the bunch. I really like it.

You're right. I too liked it. I was trying to find Sheila's comments on the earlier toast haiku, which gave better versions.

This one I like as is! ;-)

    Writing haiku...
    on the pond mirror
    a goose feather

I like the "dry stick" in the water, contrasting dry and wet, making me think of where the stick was found.
