Nice, Jeff! My first thought was a red-winged blackbird teetering precariously atop a cattail. Definitely "on the edge". But then, of course, there are the cattails themselves, living quite literally on the edge of the pond, staying on the fringe, not at all daring. I love the possibilities in these five words!

Very arresting poem, Jeff. I particularly love the striking opening – "living", and all the possibilities which are opened by that.
