a poem for these ever-increasing self-referential times
which could very well be set in Las Vegas
with its mini replica city/casinoes
but anyone who's been to the real Venice also knows this scene
a poem that replicates not one but two words effectively
and so we are left to ask:
what is real?
are we all tourists?
p.s.
what an amazing city and literally a maze of a city
ah. . .Venezia, the Guggenheim, the boardwalks in flood times,
had Thanksgiving dinner there once in '86. Pizza, as I recall.
I hadn't noticed this was a 5-7-5 until I read the first comment. I love the repetition in sound and the image. The tourists have been captured both on camera and in the water … wonderful!

Wonderful image Charles and 5/7/5 on top of it! Michael Lee Johnson, the Itasca, IL poet.

Precisely! :)
And also this image beautifully echoes the reflections theme, which is so central for Venice.
