midnight beach
a wave breaks
through the dark

I am retired and moved to Washington state three years ago. Began TRYING to write haiku in late 1990 - did not get around to submitting for publication until 1997. Am considered, by family & friends, to be one of the great procrastinators of the last 60 years. Publications include Frogpond, Modern Haiku, Heron's Nest, RAW NerVZ, Red Moon Anthology, and others. I continue trying to learn what haiku really is. View all posts by Michael Evans
wonderful haiku, Michael
here is my offering;)
July moon
reflection glitters
in a buzzing lake
predawn
my thoughts ..
lost in darkness
–
autumn seashore
I’m throwing coins and wishes
moonlit storm
the waves slivery splashes
over and over
Great one, Michael!
dusk–
the lonely surfer
limps home
4 am
police sirens
through empty streets
Thank you, Michael. I like to read your poem over and over. Each time I hear a wave breaking through the darkness. Some of my favorite memories are of very dark nights at Lighthouse Beach here in Chatham.
night breeze
phosphorescence fades
on the shingle
Thanks for the haiku & comments on my
haiku. See some familiar names – Bob,
John, Sprite, & Norman – and also some
people new to me.
Enjoyed them all.

Following the wave
again the allpowerful darkness.
-Where are you ,my Lady Moon?
in the darkness …
the ocean’s roar,
a grain of sand,
in my eye
