lost mitten lying
palm up on the trail

I never saw it
until winter stripped the trees
the curve of the hill
I never saw it
until winter stripped the trees
the curve of the hill
shadows in spring winds
ever growing silhouettes
greening of the trees
A single mitten
Alone in the world
Is sad indeed
forgotten
in the violets
last winter’s glove
Kate
squeals resound
through the pines —
melting snow along the trail
monkey park
the strange feeling that
they are monkeys
keeping watch
around the world
hands lifted in prayer
as cardinals gather
spring in the air —
one in winter
could this be the sound of one hand
clapping? could this be being here
when you’re here? stimulating
piece river.
desert temple
it too
is a mirage
fresh dairy milk
on the icy step–
cackling hen
