gone from us…
a last bloom
on her heirloom rose

Kathryn Liebowitz

A freelance writer and editor for much of her life, Kathryn Liebowitz earned her MFA in prose, and studied lyric poetry before haiku became a daily obsession. Her affinity for the fugitive, fragmentary, and evocative informs her writing and her life. Kathryn’s career includes prize-winning fiction, nonfiction, and journalism covering the visual and performing arts, local politics, book reviews, interviews, and research for nonprofits. She was a founding editor of the biannual Wild Apples: a journal of nature, art, and inquiry, for the six years of its notable if brief blaze. In recent years, Kathryn has devoted herself almost exclusively to the study of Japanese short form poetry. A deep bow of thanks to the editors of such journals as hedgerow, Modern Haiku, The Heron’s Nest, Wales Haiku Journal, Presence, #FemkuMag, tsuri-dōrō, and others for publishing her work, and to the acuity and kindness of haiku colleagues. Beyond recall the many poets and writers—contemporary and otherwise—whose voices have provided a necessary beauty. Kathryn lives in Groton, Massachusetts, with her husband and beguiling cat.
