  1. Nifty Marion, I can hear your jackdaws "loudly criticizing" what they had just seen. Smiles_! _m

I adore the gossip of all birds, and in particular, the various members of the crow family:

Wonderful play as sure the birds will have something to say about a ceremony, and guessing this might be a wedding ceremony it might be on the quality and quantity of rice thrown at the bridal couple. :-)

    1. Thank you, Alan.

This could indeed have been a wedding, but was in fact after a funeral mass. I noticed it from my office window which overlooks the church across the street. Most of the guests were in black and were standing in the road behind the hearse chatting as they waited to follow the funeral procession to the end of the street. On the lawn in front of my office was this group of birds who looked like they were mimicking the people. Although it was a sad occasion for those present, as an onlooker it was darkly amusing.

  3. Beautiful, Marion. I love the way you let the reader define the ceremony. And "gossip" is a wonderful choice.

  4. Marion,

Spot on view and comment about typical social behavior — that of the birds and the people at the ceremony. Enjoyed this!

  5. So evocative Marion. Just 5 words, and each one perfectly selected for the poetic experience – bringing maximum opportunity for the audience to engage and interpret, while remaining true to the originating encounter. And I really appreciate the wry observation of human nature.

This is a truly great haiku, worthy of a comparison with Issa. Wonderful poetry – thanks for sharing.
