Very nice Big Sur haiku, and I’m a sucker for pelicans too, except mine come from Magnetic Island off the Queensland Coast! ;-)

Alan: I agree. There’s something about the slow gliding of pelicans, especially when following the curl of a wave. I’ve seen brown pelicans in various places in Calif plus the Sea of Cortes, & white pelicans at the Salton Sea.
In the 70s, I did some seabird research. Because of DDT they’d quit breeding, but their HUGE nests were still on Santa Barbara Is.
