Martin Cohen was born in the South Bronx somewhere on Simpson Street, went to a Yeshiva on East Broadway and Canal Street, and then lived in the South of Brooklyn, the South of Long Island, The Southern Tier of Upstate New York, The South of Manhattan, and finally South Jersey in Egg Harbor.

    I was there between 1957 and 1960 on Wallace Ave. off of Pelham Parkway North three blocks away from the train station and in the opposite direction past the Blind school, and roughly seven blocks away form Hering Avenue. I was not far from the high school I attended, Christopher Columbus. The movie “Marty” was about the neighborhood. Ernest Borgnine a great character actor played, in his first lead role, Marty a butcher who had his shop right on Lydig Avenue. He went on to win an academy award for his performance beating out veteran actors Frank Sinatra and Spencer Tracy, and deservedly so. He gave a beautiful performance and so did the rest of the company. I remember our location was not too far from the famous Bronx Zoo:
