The key is 'mourning', nicely seen Leroy; this, an echo at the crossroads.

How beautiful, the "mourning," the image of compass points at the 4-way stop, the crossroads, the choices to be made, the utter aloneness of it. I also get the sense of someone wondering what purpose there is in going on. Very nice poem.

Who is this Gary Michael Dault and why hasn't Mrs Thumper sat him down for a chat? What kind of JG troll goes to a haiku group to be rude?

I'll chat with him. This is not a workshop. Above all, we want people to be respectful and polite.
