Having grown up listening to my parents’ records of Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, etc, “the crooner” could refer to one of a number of singers. However, as my mother has played the seasonal songs of Nat King Cole over the Christmas period every year since I was a child, these songs feature on my playlist, then disappear again until the following year.
The term “slide” could also refer to the physical change in note, an accompanying guitar, the death of a particular crooner, or the general demise of the genre.
A thought-provoking one for music lovers!
