ellis clay, gypsykid at gmail dot com I've been writing and studying haiku since 1992. I've self-produced a few of my own collections of haiku, most recently 'ku' in 2000, and 'nine haiku: winterness' this past winter. I am currently working on a collection of one-line haiku to be completed by this summer.

  1. good, but…
amazing a third line could have such an effect.

    “blank expression…
    yawns…
    brain flinched”

there is a word i learned at an early age, but never had a chance to use until now.

    “discombobulating”

  2. okay…
    to paraphrase
    to reread
in all fairness, i remembered what others have said, “read it anew”.
the second time around and the significance would be found.
so, taking a deep breathe, i cleared my mind, while wonder what i might use to cleanse my palate.

    first line.
“good”, wasn’t that the word i used previously.
second line, i thought, “good again…”
then, i felt myself cring. there it was staring undauntedly in my face, that scandalous third line.

    what!!!
    what is it about, bob???

here i was being held captive, and then, the worst of the worst happened, my mind was set free.

when i have the time, maybe i’ll reread it for the third time.

  3. Line one is definely a very good opening; and sets the mood and the tone of this haiku.I like the clarity, the precision and the effect of the unexpected in this poem

  4. Beautiful. Its like memories suddenly rushes through someone’s face… the wind gives an unexpected-expectations-effect…
