Julie Emerson has published books about war, love, plants, birds, and art? her most recent are Twenty Seven Stings (poetry from New Star Books) and The Herons of Stanley Park (with photographer Martin Passchier). Her haiku are in several anthologies, and she won the Vancouver International Cherry Blossom Festival Haiku Competition in 2013. She writes and paints in Vancouver and on Mayne Island, British Columbia.

  1. The beautiful image has been aptly portrayed by Julie in the haiku. The word phrase 'drenched in delight' sounds musical.

  2. Children love splashing about in the rain – they don't care if their clothes get wet, and so they shouldn't. Childhood is a carefree time and this haiku shows us that. It's also very visual and easy to hear the splash as the car drives past. Lovely, Julie.
