fence line the laughter of violets
stone wall voids
flowers growing within those gaps

What does this lovely haiku mean, I wonder? Violets have faces like pansies, seemingly to smile. But there's a barrier here — a fence. Do they smile in spite of this barrier, and put us to shame, we humans with our war-like ways, or are they saying 'in spite of all, we (flowers) are still here?'
I feel there's optimism here, and thank you for it, Sandi.
