as a birthday gift
I am learning
to grow old
waiting for a call
from the son who never calls —

election day
kids in the schoolyard
playing tag
old friends . . .
the garden fading
into twilight
cold moon
the sound of my words
in her eyes
dandelion clock
my grandchildren think
