Mary Jo Balistreri has has had three books of poetry published and a chapbook. In 2015 she began studying haiku and today it is almost exclusively her poetry of choice. Recent poems of her have appeared in Modern Haiku, Frogpond, Presence, Blithe Spirit, Whiptail, and bottle rockets. She has been honored in New Resonance 12, 2020 and The Red Moon Anthology of English Language haiku, 2021.

just the fluted song
of a wood thrush
dusk crawls across the field crickets
falling light
rinses over his face…
father at the sink
sheltering
the white flutter
of prayer flags
nestled into oak the urge of white trilliums
sunset bells slipping light into the sea
disappearing
into a boy’s warm breath
frost flowers
click of the wind silvered with frost feather grass
