drowning out
the war news —
spring peepers
veins of quartz
running under the firs
white water
tall bamboo
bows to the pruners
late snow
bento box
compartmentalizing
my worries
her hand
on my wrist
moth dust
the sound of water forgotten drought
wishing I knew
their language
night-calling migrants
reheating
last night’s soup
our long marriage
homebound ferry
thoughts zigzagging
with the terns
steam escaping
from the rice cooker
dreams of travel
thoughts unspool
with the white line
road trip
airplane window
mountains move
slowly past
