heat wave
the blackened skins
of roasting chilies

bark beetles
in the Ponderosa pine
these gnawing doubts
pebbles in the tide
my regrets lose
their rough edges
everything
in its own time
starlight
the old blind cat
listens to the birds
morning brightness
another funeral
for a childhood friend
flickering campfire
outdoor theater
the canyon wren’s
clear soliloquy
hothouse roses
without a scent
those words
of comfort
you almost offered
controlled burns
in the pine forest
the fine line
between pique
and fury
